How to Remove FaceMoods

I installed something the other day. I don't remember what it was. I think it was a download manager or something. I carefully unchecked all of everything as to not install any garbage and I still ended up with FaceMoods completely taking over every browser I use other than SeaMonkey.

There are certain steps you must to take to fully remove FaceMoods from your computer.

I thought uninstalling the toolbar from my computer, deleting all of the add-ons, and resetting all my home pages would be enough, but I was wrong.

There are simply too many steps needed to completely obliterate FaceMoods from your system, so instead of putting up a tutorial of my own, I'm just going to link to somebody who has already put up an absolute version:
http://deletemalware.blogspot.com/2011/04/remove-facemoods-uninstall-guide.html

Simple Steps for completely removing FaceMoods:
  1. Uninstall from computer in Control Panel.
  2. Reset all homepages in all browsers.
  3. Uninstall all FaceMoods add-ons from all browsers.
  4. Change Default Search Engine and Delete FaceMoods as an option.
and then read this just in case you (or I) missed something:
http://deletemalware.blogspot.com/2011/04/remove-facemoods-uninstall-guide.html

p.s. FaceMoods isn't a virus. It's just annoying. Stupidly annoying.

how to add a line break to your cell in excel

I'm guessing that a thousand monkey's on a thousand computers could have wrapped this dilemma up in a couple minutes, it took me closer to ten.

All I was trying to do was make this: Before Breakfast
Look like this: Before
Breakfast

I tried pressing enter, I tried holding down the spacebar, I tried a bunch of clicking and pressing and ctrl+ and shift+ and blah blah blah blah blah before finally stumbling upon alt+enter.

Pressing enter by itself just takes you to the cell below.

If you want enter to work the way it works everywhere else, you need to hold the alt key and press enter. Pretty simple, but really annoying if you're as dumb as I can be.

How to add a line break to your cell in excel:
  1. Place your cursor where you want the line break to existing.
  2. Press alt+enter.
  3. Smile.

How to cook the perfect baked potato...

...and boiled potato. and microwaved potato.

How to Cook a Perfect Baked Potato:

I don't really know what qualifies a baked potato as perfect or why you'd need a baked potato to be perfect, but if that's what you're looking for, your best bet is to cook your potato from 350 to 425 degrees for anywhere from 40-90 minutes.

The truth is, the perfect baked potato only exists in your mind. Experimenting with temperatures and cook times in your own home is the only way to find out how to make your perfect baked potato. As the old saying goes: One man's perfect baked potato is another man's....

While that may not be all that helpful, from my searches across the web, there are a few certainties I've discovered when it comes to baking potatoes... these certainties are:
  • Bake your potato at 350 degrees or more.
  • Bake your potato for at least 35 minutes.
  • If you are cooking other things with your potatoes, your potatoes will take longer to bake.
  • Tinfoil is optional.
  • Poke your potato to find out when it is done.
That's pretty much it. Experiment and you will find your perfect potato, it may take months, but it will be worth it in the end.

How to Cook the Perfect Boiled Potato:

Here are the most basic instructions for boiling a potato...
  1. Clean your potatoes with a brush and some water.
  2. Cut off any hardened or dark spots.
  3. Peel your potatoes (unless you are planning to bake them after boiling, in which case leaving the skins on is a good idea) and clean them again.
  4. Place potatoes in pot.
  5. Cover potatoes with one inch of water.
  6. Add salt (1 teaspoon per quart of water in pot)
  7. Boil
Now that you know how to boil potatoes, it's time to figure out how much time it takes to get a perfect boiled potato every time.
  • Small potatoes take 10-15 minutes.
  • Medium potatoes take 20-25 minutes.
  • Large whole potatoes can take 35-45 minutes.
The times above are based on whole potatoes of that size. If you cut the potatoes into pieces before boiling, the times will correspond with how large the pieces are.

Watch your potatoes while boiling so they don't boil over and check every 5 minutes or so to make sure they aren't turning to soup.

How to Make the Perfect Microwaved Potato:
  1. Clean potato.
  2. Poke holes in potato to prevent explosions.
  3. Put potato in microwave.
  4. Cook for 5 minutes on high.
  5. Eat.
It's very important to poke holes or the potato will go boom.

You can also experiment with the time as well, since we all don't own the same microwave. Your microwave might be able to do in 3 minutes what my microwave can accomplish in 5. Who knows right? Only you.

Happy Potatoes.

How to remove Windows Media Player items from the context menu

I hate when programs add stuff to the context menu (right-click menu) that I don't want to be there.

I always spend more time figuring out how to remove the context menu items than I do using the program (an exaggeration, but not much of one).

The Windows Media Player context menu items can include the following:

"Add to Now Playing List"
"Add to Playlist..."
"Add to Sync List"
"Add to Burn List"
"Add to I'm sure there are others"

This is how you remove that stuff for good:
  1. Click on the Start Menu
  2. Click Run (or use the search area)
  3. Type in regsvr32 /u wmpshell.dll
  4. Click Enter

Step 1-4:

The aftermath:

*Notice* - it should be noted that doing the following will also cause your files to not open immediately when you double-click them. You'll be taken to the default program screen. And that's a whole new pain in the behind. The "play all" option on Vista folders won't work either.

So if you later want to restore, follow the same instructions but enter regsvr32 wmpshell.dll instead.

How to upload more than 5 images at a time to blogger

How to upload more than 5 images at a time to blogger

Blogger only allows you to upload 5 images at a time. This is a big time hassle if you're trying to upload a ton of pics. To get around it, just add the Drag Drop Uploader add-on to Firefox.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2190/

Once added you just:
  • open the folder with the images you want to upload
  • highlight the images
  • drag the images into the upload images box
  • click the upload image button
With pictures:

1. Open folder and highlight images.

2. Drag and drop into blogger image uploader.

*Note*

The Drag Drop Uploader tool works with all sites, but I've only seen it go over the max number of photos in Blogger.

how to get your recycle bin back on your desktop after you have deleted it in windows vista

how to get your recycle bin back on your desktop in windows vista

It seems pretty stupid, but I recycle my recycle bin right off my desktop at least once every two months, and I always forget how to bring it back. So I go on a Google search and waste at least three precious minutes of my valuable time figuring out how to get it back. That time wasting ends today.

Here's how you get your recycle bin back after you've deleted it:
  1. Right-click on your desktop and select personalize from the menu.
  2. Click the change desktop icons menu option in the upper-left corner.
  3. Check the recycle bin box.
  4. Done.

And now with pictures:

1. Right-click on your desktop and select personalize from the menu.

How to cancel a friend request on Facebook

You can't do this by simply pressing a cancel button, but you can clear a Facebook friend request if you so choose.

It's really simple, to clear a Facebook friend request, just go to your Facebook privacy settings and edit your Block List.

Enter the person's name and block them, then unblock them.

When you go back to their profile, the friend request will be cleared.

Note:

You can also do this in groups where people haven't responded to join requests, but only if you're an Admin. I'm not sure if it works for Officers, I'm pretty sure it doesn't.

How to Remove Windows Media Player from your Right-Click Properties box

How to Remove Windows Media Player from your Right-Click Properties box

I don't know how many people this will help, but it sure helped me.

First I'll show you what I'm talking about:

That's not my pic, I lost my original one and didn't think to take a screenshot before trying yet another fix.

The problem (if you view it as one) is Windows Media Player being integrated into your properties box. Any time right-click properties on a media file, the above appears. This might not seem like a huge problem, and it wouldn't be... if it didn't autoplay.

Yes, it autoplays the file. If you wear headphones, have roommates, family, or simply don't enjoy having the life scared out of you, this is a huge problem.

Another problem, is the autoplay doesn't turn off if you press cancel, only if you press OK. So, if you cancel it, you have to restart your computer to shut it up. Or you have to restart explorer.

Anyways, here is how I removed the Windows Media Player Properties integration:

You simply remove Windows Media Player Context Menu Integration.

You do this by:

1. Click Start
2. Click Run
3. Type in regsvr32 /u wmpshell.dll
4. Click Enter

There's a problem though, it removes WMP as your default player and latches programs onto other stuff. My movies opened with VLC, I was fine with that, but my MP3 files opened with Depositfiles Uploader. Weird.

I was afraid to bring the WMP Context Menu Integration back, but I had to or I'd be stuck with an even bigger hassle with my MP3's.

Here's how you enable WMP context menus :

1. Click Start
2. Click Run
3. Type in regsvr32 wmpshell.dll
4. Click Enter

Lucky for me, the properties menu integration disappeared. I have no reason to believe this won't work for all systems.

So, step by step:

Disable WMP Menu Integration by following these steps:

1. Click Start
2. Click Run
3. Type in regsvr32 /u wmpshell.dll
4. Click Enter

Then re-enable WMP Menu Integration by following these steps:

1. Click Start
2. Click Run
3. Type in regsvr32 wmpshell.dll
4. Click Enter

and your problem should be gone.

How to reinstall/uninstall or repair installation of AVG?

How to reinstall/uninstall or repair installation of AVG?

The below is from the AVG website. For some reason, AVG's uninstaller doesn't work properly, so if you want to uninstall an AVG product from your computer, you have to download another 50-60mb installer and use the uninstall option from there.

Ridiculous.
If you have installed AVG 8.5 Free Edition on your computer and need to install different components or repair the installation, please proceed as follows:

* please download the latest AVG installation installation file from the Download section of our website
*
When you are prompted, please do not open this file directly from the Internet, but click the "Save" button and choose a location where the installation file should be stored. We recommend saving the file to the Desktop.
* Locate the downloaded AVG installation file (it has a four color square icon and its name starts with AVG...) and launch the installation by double-clicking on it.
* The following screen will be displayed during the installation process:

Add/Remove Components - choose this option if you want to add or remove some AVG component
Repair installation - this option repairs or reinstalls missing or damaged components of AVG
Uninstall - this option removes the AVG program from your PC

How to Restart Explorer on Windows Vista

How to Restart Explorer on Windows Vista

My image viewer glitches sometimes and really messes with my computer experience. To fix it, I used to restart my computer, if I happened to be downloading something or if I happened to be in a call, I'd have to stop doing anything productive and wait to restart my computer.

I was messing around and decided to try and restart explorer in hopes of avoiding an entire restart, and by golly, it worked.

So, here's how to restart Explorer in Windows Vista:

Method 1:

Open Task Manager (Crtl+Shift+Esc or Crtl+Alt+Delete or Right-click on Task Bar and Select Task Manager)
Click on the processes tab
Click on explorer.exe and then click end process

A confirmation box will pop up, click End Process again

To restart explorer:

Open the Task Manager Again
Click the File Menu
Select New Task (Run...)
Type explorer.exe and then click OK

Everything is back. Yay.

Method 2:

Press Crtl+Shift and right click on any blank space in the Start Menu.
Release Ctrl+Shift and click on the Exit Explorer option
Restart Explorer using the Restart Method outline in Method 1

2 - A folder will open, look at the upper-left corner of the folder for a few items. Click the Change Desktop Icons option.

3 - A new folder will open. Check the Recycle Bin and click OK. You can also add a My Computer icon, a User's files icon, a Network icon, and a Control Panel icon.

How to Make Mozilla Firefox Your Default Browser With MSN Messenger - Fixing the Firefox/MSN/Hotmail/Internet Explorer Glitch

How to Make Mozilla Firefox Your Default Browser With MSN Messenger - Fixing the Firefox/MSN/Hotmail/Internet Explorer Glitch

I don't like using Internet Explorer, it's really slow on my machine, but MSN Messenger insists on opening Internet Explorer every time I try to open my email. There are several solutions to this problems, I've found that some work for people, others don't, but at least one of these methods should work for you.

Method 1 - Set Firefox as your default browser in Firefox.

Doing this is simple, you open Firefox, click on the Tools menu at the top of the browser, and select Options. In the Options box, select Advanced Options, click the General Tab, and then click the Check Now option at the bottom of the box. If Firefox isn't your default browser, it'll ask you if you want to change it to the default browser, click Yes and then close Firefox.

After you've done that, you can try your luck with MSN. Unless you're one of the lucky ones, chances are it's not going to be this easy for you. But it has worked for a few people so I thought I'd include it.

Method 2 - The Internet Explorer Bait and Switch

You're going to set Internet Explorer as your default browser, this can be done by opening Internet Explorer, selecting the tools menu, then Internet Options. When the Internet Options box opens up, select the Programs tab, at the very top it says Default Web Browser - Make Default, click on the Make Default button.

After you've done that, reset your computer. You want to do this next step as quick as possible to hopefully avoid any programs in the background that will get in the way of it working. Open Firefox as soon as your computer has loaded and follow the steps in Method 1 to make Firefox your default browser.

Test it with MSN again, don't worry if it didn't work, there's still a couple options left.

Method 3 - Change your default browser through your Operating System.

If you're using Vista, click the Start button, then click the Default Programs button located in the right column. Click the Set Programs and Computer Defaults button located at the bottom of the Default Programs folder. A window will open, select the Custom button and it will expand the Custom information. Select Mozilla Firefox to make it your default browser and press the OK button.

If you're using Windows XP, click the Start button and open the Control Panel. Click on the Add or Remove Programs option. In the left column, select the Set Programs Access and Defaults button. Click on the Custom button and choose Mozilla Firefox as your default browser and then click the OK button.

Now try to open your email with MSN and see if it works. If it doesn't work, there's one more option.

Method 4 - Outside Programs to the rescue

I saved this method for last because it's a little annoying to have to install outside programs but this one is almost guaranteed to work. You need to download and install MSN Messenger Plus! You need to make sure that you allow Messenger Plus! To load plugins on your account or this won't work. Once you have MSN Messenger Plus! Installed, do a Google search for StuffPlug and install the plugin. After StuffPlug is installed, select the Open Hotmail in default browser option.

Messenger Plus! is an outside program and it runs on SponsorWare, if you don't want it on your computer, be sure that you uncheck the "Install SponsorWare" box when you are installing Messenger Plus!

This method has been known to work for almost everybody, but if you don't want to install outside software, there's one final solution.

Method 5 - Add a tab to your bookmarks in Firefox and link a bunch of email accounts together.

The main reason I want MSN to open Hotmail in Firefox is because I have a bunch of email accounts and it's easier to load Messenger and click the email tab than it is to punch in my email/password every time I want to use Firefox to check my Hotmail. Hotmail now lets you link up to 5 email accounts, so, to save the headaches above, simply set a Bookmarks Toolbar Bookmark for Hotmail, punch in your info, save it, then go into Hotmail and link all of your accounts together.

That's it, all the possible solutions to the MSN/Hotmail/Firefox problem, hopefully the first one worked for you, if not, hopefully one of them worked for you.

Thanks for reading.

How to rip full Facebook Albums

How to rip full Facebook Albums

Whether you're trying to rip your own albums for safekeeping or collect pictures of that girl you like (stalker), the best way to rip full Facebook Photo Albums is to use an easy to install add-on in your Firefox browser.

Below, I will outline the installation and use of said add-on.

Step 1 - Open your Firefox Browser, click tools, and select Add-ons.

Step 2 - When the Add-On box opens, click on the "Get Add-ons" button.

Step 3 - Type Facepad into the Get Add-ons Search Box and press enter or the magnifying glass.

Step 4 - Click "Add to Firefox"

Step 5 - Click "Install Now"

Step 6 - After the installation is complete, you will have to restart your browser, do that, then log into Facebook and right click on the title of an album you want to download. Select the "Download Album with FacePAD" option.

You can also select an individual page inside the album. This has been glitchy for me though, sometimes it downloads the full album, sometimes it downloads the single page.

Step 7 - Watch as your pics download to your hard drive. The only annoying thing is the pop up message that lets you know that page 1 is being downloaded, then page 2, and if there is a page 3, it lets you know that too. Still, it's better than doing it by hand.

How to Install Additional Fonts on Windows Vista

How to Install Additional Fonts on Windows Vista

Windows Vista has made it pretty easy to install fonts, even then, I didn't know how to do it right off the bat. Below are several ways you can go about installing additional fonts on your Vista machine.

The easiest way to install a new font to your Vista computer is to simply right click on the font or fonts that you want to install and select the Install option from the right-click menu. That's it, it's as simple as that, the font will be installed if it is compatible and you'll be using it in seconds. The only extra step you might come across is clicking continue if you have User Account Control activated on your computer.

Another way to install fonts is to open your control panel, switch to classic view, and open the fonts folder. When the fonts folder is open, you simply right-click on some blank space and select the Install New Fonts option that appears in the menu. Doing it this way is a real pain as you then have to navigate through folders until you find the fonts you want to install. Once you've found the font(s) you want to install, click install and you're finished.

I recommend you learn to do it both ways as the second option is how you go about doing it on an XP machine, but stick to the first option if you value your time.
