GIF images do not animate in Firefox

GIF images do not animate in Firefox

If you are using Firefox and can't get your GIF animations to animate on-screen, follow this simple guide to help set things right.

1. In the Location bar, type about:config and then press enter. (The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page should appear, just click "I'll be careful, I promise!" and move forward. As long as you follow this guide you have nothing to worry about.

2. In the about:config page, type image.animation_mode in the Filter text are. This determines how to animate GIF images. Possible animation options are:
  • none: animated images will never play.
  • once: animated images will play once and then stop animating.
  • normal: (default) animated images will play as normal.
3. Double check that the value of image.animation_mode is set to normal, the default setting.

4. If it's not set to normal, change the value by right-clicking on the preference name, going to modify in the menu, and typing normal into the text box.

5. You can also use this guide to make animations only animate once or not animate at all. It's pretty simple.
